Tammany Hammond, LA Hammond, LA Full-time Full-time $16 - $18 an hour $16 - $18 an hour 22 hours ago 22 hours ago 22 hours ago The purpose of this position is to provide consumer/family liaison services (peer support) to families whose children of any age experience mental health and/or substance use challenges.
This unique position is delivered by professionals who have lived experience raising a child, youth, or young adult.
This position works through Florida Parishes Human Services Authority primarily located at the Hammond clinic with some travel to additional clinics.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions Specific peer supports may include but are not limited to:
Greeting people in the clinic/demonstrating hospitality Assisting in the completion of applications, surveys, or other clinic paperwork Assisting in utilization of Telesage Outcomes Measurement System (TOMS) Supporting clients with urgent behavioral health and substance abuse needs Making reminder phone calls and encouraging attendance at upcoming appointments Making follow up phone calls and encouraging re-scheduling following missed appointments Providing information about mental health resources (including directing people to literature within the clinic) and educational opportunities, including advocacy services Promoting the use of recovery language through modeling and education Assisting consumers in the development of goals and identification of strengths to aid in recovery planning Facilitating Family meetings or other peer support groups focusing on empowerment, recovery, and advocacy Facilitating groups to enhance skills in areas of communication, coping, support as approved by the clinic manager and with a clinician present if indicated by the clinic manager Documenting contact with consumers in the charts as requested Participating as a team member of the clinician team and provide care and support to persons served Educate family members on first episode psychosis, mental illness, treatment options, other available resources and the recovery process.
Management None Other Complies with the company's vision, policies and procedures Performs other tasks as assigned by Peer Support Specialist Supervisor and/or Executive Director SKILLS Must have completed family peer specialist support training.
If in the event of hiring a new staff the training is not available, the FPHSA Mental Health Regional Director and NAMI St.
Tammany Executive Director, may agree to waive this requirement for an agreed upon period of time until the training can be completed.
Must maintain their certification through mandatory continuing education trainings.
Must report to work as scheduled and work diligently throughout day Must wear accurate identification.
Must represent FPHSA well by interacting in a positive manner with all persons served, staff and stakeholders.
Will receive orientation to and follow FPHSA philosophy, policies and procedures.
Contract staff will comply with agency-required training.
If training is completed at another facility and/or location and meets the accepted standards of the agency, that training will be accepted and verified upon receipt of documentation, such as a copy of CEU or training certificate provided by contractor/staff person.
Will comply with accreditation requirements and standards to support and ensure agency maintains accreditation through the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
EFFORT Concentration and creativity required daily using sight, hearing and touch to operate a computer, answer the telephone, refer callers, keyboard, enter data, answer inquiries, proofread text, file documents, etc.
