Our mission is to protect public health and welfare of district citizens by using comprehensive, integrated mosquito management strategies.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR NATURE OF WORK Under the administrative guidance of the Director, performs responsible professional administrative and supervisory work assisting in directing the activities of the Tangipahoa Mosquito Abatement District.
Work involves assisting the Director in the planning, organization, operation, and financial management of a comprehensive program of mosquito abatement in Tangipahoa Parish.
General Supervision is exercised over subordinate professional and technical employees.
Performs other work as requested.
The Assistant Director oversees all District functions in the absence of the Director.
EXAMPLES OF WORK DUTIES Assists in directing the work of professional, technical and skilled employees and part-time workers engaged in the identification and elimination of breeding areas of mosquitoes Coordinates the Arbovirus Surveillance Program, which includes the collection of mosquito pools for testing, analysis of results, maintaining statistical charts, graphs and data Conducts studies by applying theories, principles, and concepts of entomology and related scientific disciplines to District arbovirus activity to aid in the development of mosquito control strategies for the goal of reducing the potential for human and animal arbovirus diseases Assists the Director in planning, coordinating, and carrying out special mosquito control research projects Develops employee training programs using print and audiovisual media, and supervises or conducts employee training sessions Acts as the District's safety officer Oversees all larviciding and adulticiding operations in conjunction with appropriate supervisory personnel (and reports status to Director) Assists the Director in the purchase of equipment, chemicals and supplies for the District Assists the Director in preparation for the annual budget Plans, conducts, and publishes research and makes media presentations at scientific meetings Other duties as assigned by the Director QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in entomology, biology, or related field required.
Master of Science (MS) in entomology, biology, or related field strongly preferred At least five (5) years of experience in mosquito control work, at least two (2) years in a supervisory role Within 6 months of employment, must be certified by Louisiana Department of Agriculture in 8A (Mosquito Control Applicator) and 8D (Mosquito Control Supervisor) KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS Must have knowledge of entomological principles and concepts related to mosquito control Proficient with computer systems including Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills Excellent problem-solving and data interpretation abilities Skill in maintaining effective working relationships and professionalism Ability to exercise good judgement, make logical decisions, and multi-task ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Full time position:
